Utah State University President Stan Albrecht will recognize more than 53,000 alumni and other donors who contributed to the university's comprehensive campaign, Honoring Tradition, Securing the Future, Celebrating Success.
It was a tumultuous and even deadly fire season throughout the state and it appears that Utah can add one more wildfire to the tally.
According to officials from the Color Country Interagency Fire management team, the Roundabout Fire has burned over 2,400 acres between Cedar City and Minersville.
The fire continues to grow in an area characterized by pinion, juniper, and grasses. As of Tuesday evening the fire was only 20% contained.
On Saturday Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison issued a proclamation welcoming the Moab Pride Festival:
"I think it’s a good event, I really do, and I think the community thinks it’s a good event. These are our neighbors, these are our friends, these are the people who live here, so, you know, we’re all in this thing together. And why not celebrate that?"
With the world’s population now exceeding 7 billion people, undeveloped land is quickly diminishing. This week, hundreds of people from across the country are in Salt Lake City hoping to reverse that trend by taking part in the Land Trust Alliance Rally at the Salt Palace.
The Multicultural Center of Cache Valley has a permanent resident: a one-eyed gerbil. Center director Ernesto Lopez, who installs an immediately appreciated wheel into the gerbil’s habitat, explains that the black fur-ball is a remnant from a short-lived bilingual preschool program.
"It was costing the center more money than could be afforded. Due to that reason, the program had to end, and we inherited the mascot—the pet to that program, which was a gerbil."
