State Education Budget The governor signed the last of a series of budget measures today that total just over $3 billion for the next school year, an 1.3% increase from this year's funding. One bill provides more money for pre-kindergarten and optional all-day kindergarten programs. Another makes performance pay part of school administrators' salaries.
Some welfare recipients may be required to undergo drug tests to qualify for benefits under a bill that has passed the house. Republican Representative Brad Wilson of Kaysville explained last week that anyone who fails a drug test could enroll in a treatment program to avoid losing their benefits.
